Les Bernard created this amazing Modernist style set. I believe this set to be a special or prototype due to the hand inscribed features on the individual pieces. Please look at the photos and you will see these engravings in addition to the signature plaques. The Brooch is 2 X 3.5 inches wide. The Bracelet is about 6 inches, so for a smaller wrist, probably custom made as the engravings on the interior would indicate. The earrings are a whopping 3.25 inches long and 2 inches wide. This is a real statement set. It is difficult to photograph the correct color of this set it is almost an aged pewter color the back sides are a little more silver. In excellent scarcely worn condition from a lovely Florida estate.
Les Bernard jewelry grew out of Vogue, founded in 1936 by Harold Shapiro. The Shapiro family sold their share of Vogue in 1962 and son of Harold, Bernard, and designer Lester Joy opened a new company in 1963 – “Les Bernard inc.” The company is considered a pioneer in the field of jewelry of high class design. Under the brand name Les Bernard created jewelry using all different types of gilt base metals, faux finish, resin, glass, crystal, enamel, marcasites, silver and precious metal alloys. Owners of Les Bernard, know that as a rule they are-all of high quality. Please see my other Les Bernard set in my shop which is of a very different style. Les Bernard Co. made jewelry in all different styles. Les Bernard created jewelry for the series Dynasty for many years. The company Les Bernard ceased to exist in 1996.
