The tradition of weddings bracelets dates back centuries, but it was the Victorians who adopted, adapted, and popularized the tradition as we understand it today is thought to be that Upon an engagement, the bride-to-be would be gifted one of a pair of bracelets which she would wear proudly until her wedding day, on which she would be gifted the other bracelet. Most often a gift from the bride’s parents, the bracelets were passed down from one generation to the next. Because of this, they were often split up between daughters and therefore it is rare to find a matched pair still together today.
Matched pair of Hand Made Etruscan revival rose and yellow gold Victorian era bracelets circa 1860. This pair has a bold two tone look with bright yellow gold and rose gold details. The rose gold decorations are 14k gold. The core of the bracelets are brass with heavy yellow gold vermeil. There are a few small spots where you can see the gold has worn away, this serves to demonstate the thickness of the layer of vermeil. These are approx 150 years old but they are in good wearable vintage condition. There is some rippling from possibly getting bumped through years of wear, this is appropriate to the age and purpose of the pieces. These were very loved.
This type of Gold bracelet was a favorite accessory of a finely appointed Victorian woman and it is said they would wear them stacked from wrist to elbow! When sets such as these are found still together they are often referred to as 'wedding bracelets'. As we have learned the tradition the bracelets would begin as an engagement gift and worn upon the bride's wedding day.
Sold as a set. Each is hinged at side with push-tab closures and security chains binds the 2 together,
I am certain originally these had their own security chain, sometime in their life, some time long ago I believe they were connected together. Frequently the loops that held the chain came loose. This has a very sturdy vintage replacement.
Each bangle measures .75" wide with an inner circumference of 6 inches - the opening is 1.75 inches X 2.0 inches,
so for a very small wrist. Sold AS IS so please look at photos
